The tradition began in 1991 when Brothers Carlo and Antonio Giovannini opened Trattoria La Strada, utilizing their collective knowledge of running exclusive fine dining restaurants. They combined fifty years of experience to design an elegant and upscale interior and to develop an authentic Tuscan restaurant. Trattoria La Strada has, since its origin been identified as the finest authentic Italian restaurant in the Gaslamp District of San Diego.

The original Acqua Al 2 came to life in Florence in 1978. Over the past 31 years the restaurant has become an intimately loved dining establishment by world travelers, local Florentines, and international celebrities. We bring to San Diego the creative Tuscan cuisine and warm hospitality that has made the restaurant famous. Acqua Al 2, in San Diego, uses exactly the same menu as the original restaurant. The Executive Chef, from Florence, spent seven months in San Diego training the staff in the recipes and techniques. The owner, Martin Gonzalez, also spent a year working in the kitchen in Italy.
