El Dorado Bar San Diego

Discreetly tucked away in an unassuming downtown precinct, El Dorado Cocktail Lounge has evolved into a neighborhood institution where they keep the lights low and pour the drinks strong. Decades of history and faded décor are celebrated fondly — with rustic, maroon-hued walls, portraits of vintage cowboy scenes, wrought-iron, oil lamp chandeliers, and an enormous taxidermy white buffalo head (known fondly by regulars as “Otis”) perched high above imbibers. Existing as one of two remaining bars along San Diego’s historic downtown Broadway thoroughfare, formerly named “D Street, ” where public houses once retained a real estate monopoly, a sense of history prevails at El Dorado. The building itself has housed a variety of spirit havens over the decades, standing strong as one of San Diego’s oldest licensed drinking establishments and, today, showcases a combination of casual authenticity, charm, and just a dash of “dive bar” spirit served straight up—without pretense.
