La Pinata Mexican Restaurant San Diego CA
San Diego, CA 92110
Beautiful place with some very nice garden like outdoor seating. our service was excellent but granted we were there at an off hours - late lunch / early dinner time. I thought the margaritas were tasty and strong, and we thoroughly enjoyed the food, including an excellent chicken mole, the seasoning and spices were very good and the heat low as we asked. My wife and I had a great experience here - given the range of reviews I see maybe they get swamped at prime times?
This is the worst Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. That includes all taco shops. Mexican restaurants in California and other states. Friends cooking. Taco Bell. Any dumpster in Old Town. This place because of the banner that says "Best Mexican Restaurant in San Diego", which after eating there can make me laugh or cry. The place is tiny. The decor is fine but it has over 12 "thank you for not smoking" signs. I don't smoke, but 12 signs in what is roughly a 15'x15' room. I don't know why but it pissed me off. I order Jack Enchiladas. Who can screw up Enchiladas. The tortillas were very greasy and the chicken was bland. Don't be fooled by the name Jack Enchiladas and think you're getting cheese inside the Enchiladas. It's a slice of cheese melted over top. One slice of cheese over chicken enchiladas. Crunchy, stale rice. Beans tasted burnt. Awful food. While there I heard a couple tell the waitress they were visiting San Diego and I couldn't help but be sad that this place represents Mexican food to them in our city. This place is within feet of several really great Mexican restaurants. Places that take pride in their food. Casa Guadalajara is worth the wait if this is your other option. If not, go anywhere else. You don't deserve this.
